A New Way to Connect: The Dementia Activity Box Designed in Oregon

ree

Mobile Memory Enrichment is launching something new this November in Hillsboro—created for caregivers, memory care homes, adult foster homes, and the people they support.

Introducing the P.A.L. Program, short for People Always Listening.

This dementia activity box includes:

  • Handwritten letters that feel personal

  • Tactile items that invite sensory connection

  • Simple activities that can be used again and again

It’s more than a care tool. It’s a meaningful moment in a box.

Whether you’re a family caregiver, a memory care professional, or an activity coordinator, the P.A.L. Program is designed to help people with memory loss feel seen, heard, and connected.

🧠 What’s Inside the P.A.L. Program?

Each dementia activity kit includes:

  • A series of strategically written letters, designed to spark recognition, joy, and storytelling

  • Handmade envelopes that offer texture, color, and curiosity

  • Reusable activity prompts and sensory items designed to support fine motor skills, reminiscence, and engagement

These kits can be used:

  • One-on-one with a loved one

  • In small groups at a memory care or foster home

  • During quiet moments that need connection

Everything is crafted with purpose—and everything can be used more than once.

💡 Caregiver Reflection

  • What kinds of activities feel joyful—not just productive?

  • How do you usually connect when words don’t come easily?

  • Who might light up from a handwritten letter?

Let this be a new kind of care moment—for both of you.

💬 Words to Carry

Connection doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s a letter. A texture. A moment that feels like “us.”

That’s why the P.A.L. Program was born.

Crafted by a small team with deep roots in dementia care:

  • Jesse Azzopardi, CDS, a 20-year professional known for her outside-the-box activity planning in hospice and memory care

  • Lindsey Bretzman, CDP, ADC, an award-winning enrichment designer honored by OHCA and LeadingAge Oregon

  • Jesse Soderstrom, Assistant at MME with a background in writing and music, who brings creative clarity and warmth to every kit

Together, we designed this program to help caregivers feel supported—and help loved ones feel connected.
